The latest round of the WA Hiking Participation Grants Program will see $252,168 provided to 12 projects designed to encourage people of all ages and cultures to safely go off the beaten track.
The program aims to increase entry level supervised opportunities for bushwalking and the increasingly popular sport of trail running with organised races over varying distances.
Administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the latest round of grants includes an introduction to trail running, funding for a hiking festival in the Perth Hills, a program for youth using hiking to promote positive mental health and a series of four experiences exploring the Wadjemup Bidi Trail network on Rottnest Island.
