As part of the WA Screen Industry Strategy, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) has supported a funding increase towards Screen Capacity Programs delivered through Screenwest.
The additional funding allocated to West Coast Visions is part of the Strategy’s Workforce Development initiative, building on the support provided by Lotterywest, and allows for production funding of up to $1 million.
Together with Screen Australia’s pre-commitment of $500,000, West Coast Visions recipients will receive a total of $1.5 million production funding as of 2025.
The WA Screen Industry Strategy was launched in April 2024 to provide a 10-year framework to guide investment and development in the WA screen industry.
The Strategy outlines eight initiatives, including an $11.2 million commitment for the development of a WA Screen Industry Workforce Development Plan and programs to build the capacity of the local screen industry, to meet the growing production needs across drama and documentary areas.
This growth is critical to ensure readiness for the commencement of production at the new Perth Film Studios in 2026 and ongoing location-based production across the State.
Support provided for the Documentary Workforce Development Program will provide the opportunity for WA documentary production companies to offer paid on the job training opportunities to local screen practitioners.
Additional industry development programs supported through the Screen Capacity program include, workshops and masterclasses, with other programs to be announced.
