More than $20 million is being given out to 24 projects via the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) for short. Clubs and local governments are receiving funding for improvements such as new changerooms as well as football, netball, tennis, swimming, golf, bowling, BMX, and skate park facilities. The breakdown is:
Meanwhile the Club Night Lights Program, (CNLP) is distributing more than $3.4 million to 11 projects to upgrade lighting or install new floodlights:
An advisory committee of community, local government, state government, sporting and Aboriginal interests stakeholders are involved in the assessment of applications. Recommendations are then made to the Minister for Sport and Recreation for approval.
The current round of CSRFF and CNLP — for small grants capped at $200,000 for projects up to $500,000 — closes on 28 March 2024.
This is a major win for our sporting and recreation communities and the State Government supports facilities’ infrastructure and the lighting up of clubs at night.
Providing financial assistance to clubs and local governments to develop sports and recreational infrastructure results in increased physical activity and extends options available, for example enabling use of facilities after dark.
The Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund and Club Night Lights Program contribute to healthier, more active and socially connected communities.
These initiatives ensure continuing use of facilities that would otherwise age and fall into disrepair. While the ongoing improvements to changerooms improve accessibility and improve participation rates among women and people who live with disability.
The CSRFF and CNLP are administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
