Intro
Aly May’s contribution to the arts featured a passion and commitment to the fashion industry spanning more than 35 years. Her work as a stylist, event producer, fashion lecturer and show choreographer inspired many in the WA fashion industry and led the way for continued creative growth of the industry while highlighting its ability to contribute to positive change in the community.
Her achievements have been extensive and include creating and developing the successful fashion presentation for STYLEAID, an annual charity fashion event that ran for 20 years supporting fundraising for the WA Aids Council.
Many WA-born internationally acclaimed models had their first "walk" on the STYLEAID stage and the event launched the careers of countless designers and creatives.
Aly was also instrumental in creating the famed runway showcase for the Boobalicious ball which continues to raise funding for Breast Cancer Care WA. The Boobalicious ball started in 2004 with Aly May styling the 15th anniversary of the charity event for her final show in 2018.
Notably, Aly was key in delivering the former Designer Fashion grants program which provided valuable support to some now well-known WA designers and labels. She was responsible for creating and producing the State Arts and Culture Partnership Honours – an event acknowledging the role of philanthropists and businesses who partner with WA arts and cultural organisations. Aly also partnered with the Office of Multicultural Interests to produce the Connect and Create Creative Industries forum, which connected WA attendees with potential collaborations with the Asian arts and culture sector.
Aly was a phenomenal person and her commitment to the WA arts and cultural sector was second to none.
