The proclamation of the accession of His Majesty The King, Charles the Third, King of Australia, will be announced by the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia at 12 noon AEST, on Sunday 11 September, at Parliament House in Canberra. In accordance with flag protocol, the Australian National Flag should be flown at full-mast on Sunday, 11 September 2022 from 12 noon AEST (10.00am AWST) until dusk, at which time the flag should be returned to half-mast until the day after the funeral of the late Sovereign, Elizabeth the Second.
Further advice will be issued when details of the funeral are confirmed.
In accordance with flag protocol, this advice applies to all flags and ensigns at each flag station. Flags may be flown at half-mast overnight, provided they are illuminated.
Vice-Regal Standards are to remain at full-mast.
To allow necessary preparations where possible over the weekend, Ministerial Offices are requested to disseminate this advance notification to all relevant departments and agencies within their Ministerβs portfolio. The financial and staffing implications arising from weekend flag marshal duties are the responsibility of each organisation.
