Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray officially opened the upgraded multipurpose courts today following a tour of the BRAC with Shire of Broome representatives.
The new undercover court facility enables players of the Broome Basketball Association and the Broome Netball Association who use the facilities to play out of the sun during the day, and allows for competition and training into the night.
Other highlights of the newly upgraded facility include grandstand seating, court resurfacing, digital scoreboards and clocks, a public address sound system, fencing and sport furniture such as adjustable backboards and score tables.
At the 2017 State election, Kimberley MLA Josie Farrer secured a commitment of $1.94 million to the Shire of Broome for the covering of the four existing basketball and netball courts at the centre.
The Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre is a multisport facility with an outdoor 25-metre swimming pool, a leisure pool, an indoor two-court stadium, a gymnasium, eight outdoor tennis courts, two squash courts and the four basketball/netball courts.
