Developing a 10 Year Vision for Culture and the Arts in Western Australia

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) is developing of a 10 Year Vision for Culture and the Arts in Western Australia (10 Year Vision).

The 10 Year Vision is WA's opportunity to update Strategic Directions 2016-2031.

Strategic Directions 2016-2031 was released in 2016 having been developed in partnership with the sector through the Arts Leadership Group, involving extensive sector consultation.

While Strategic Directions 2016-2031 contains valuable insights and aspirations for the WA’s arts, culture and creative industries, since the COVID-19 pandemic there is a need for an updated vision for the sector that reflects the changes in a national and global context, and more clearly articulates the State Government’s priorities for our arts, culture, and creative industries in line with wider priorities for the state.

The 10 Year Vision will guide the State Government’s focus for WA culture, arts and creative industries over the next ten years.

A collaborative approach will be needed as we work towards the priorities for the sector over the next ten years, with agencies working together across all levels of government, non-government stakeholders, business and the sector locally, nationally and internationally.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the online survey, make a submission, participate in a focus group, meet with us, or connect us to your networks — with particular thanks to members of our Working Group and Leadership Group, as well as First Nations Elders and cultural leaders.

We are now in the process of working through what you told us and consulting across government. We expect the 10 Year Vision will be released in 2024.

If you would like to register for consultation to develop targeted strategies and plans in the coming years, please email researchca@dlgsc.wa.gov.au
