Aboriginal engagement

In supporting the development of the Aboriginal Cultural Centre, the State Government is working in partnership with Aboriginal people to ensure the planning for the centre is guided by a cultural authority framework.

An Aboriginal engagement strategy has also been developed to embed Aboriginal-led community engagement, cultural decision-making and governance in the development and ongoing operation of the Aboriginal Cultural Centre.

Between 1 January 2022 and 30 June 2024 we spoke with 105 Aboriginal organisations, peak bodies, representative bodies or community groups across 176 engagements, engaging directly with more than 1625 people.

As the project moves into the project definition phase (Kambarang — Birth), engagement is planned to expand in both breadth and depth with communities across Western Australia.

This will be achieved through expansion of the project governance model, increased statewide engagement and the establishment of partnerships with regional organisations with strong community and cultural connections.

This will provide an opportunity to update the wider Aboriginal community on progress of the project and to seek further feedback on the vision, functions and scope of the centre.
