Lanie Chopping appointed as Director General, Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety
From 1 July 2025
Following the public sector reform announced by Premier Roger Cook on 31 March 2025, steps are being taken to confirm the leadership of departments to drive achievement of the Government’s priorities.
From 1 July 2025, Ms Lanie Chopping will take up the position of Director General of the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (DLGIRS) on a five-year contract.
Ms Chopping’s appointment leverages her extensive experience in regulatory governance and industry oversight. In her new role, she will continue to drive important change in the portfolios of Local Government and Racing and Gaming.
The Public Sector Commission is conducting a nationwide recruitment process to appoint the Director General for the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (DCITS), and a number of other agencies. Appointments are expected to be made by 1 July to ensure continued momentum to deliver full implementation of the reform by 1 January 2026.
The department has a robust plan in place to maintain continuity of the important services we provide to our sectors.
We will continue to work diligently to minimise any disruption, and focus on setting up government for success.
