Cross-agency cooperation will target criminal activity in gambling industry
Three key Western Australian agencies have joined forces to bolster the integrity and monitoring of the gambling industry in the state.
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), the Gaming and Wagering Commission and the Western Australia Police Force have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to share information, which will reduce the risk of inappropriate activity in the WA gambling industry.
This MOU formalises a cross-agency commitment to continue to work together in administering and enforcing gambling laws.
The agreement aims to facilitate the exchange of crucial resources and information, ensuring a unified approach to overseeing the industry.
DLGSC Director General Lanie Chopping said the collaborative effort underscores the shared responsibilities and overlapping interests of the 3 agencies and highlights their dedication to maintaining a safe and fair gambling environment for all.
“While the majority of suppliers and consumers are dedicated to maintaining ethical standards, the agencies recognise the potential risks,” Ms Chopping said.
“Together we remain vigilant in safeguarding the community from organised criminal activity and the infiltration of illicit funds into Western Australia's gambling sector.”
