East Fremantle Oval redevelopment heralds world class community hub
The transformation of an aging sportsground to a modern multi-purpose facility is now complete with the official opening at the weekend of the East Fremantle Community Park.
What was previously known as East Fremantle Oval now forms the centrepiece of a $35 million integrated community and sporting precinct that provides a hub for sport, leisure and social gatherings.
A $25 million investment from the WA Government, a $8 million contribution by the Town of East Fremantle and $1.3 million from Lotterywest underpinned the development which now provides improved facilities for existing sporting organisations — the East Fremantle Football Club, East Fremantle Bowling Club and East Fremantle Croquet Club.
The state-of the art precinct also offers half-court basketball, health club, skate zone, an all-abilities nature play space, fenced dog park, as well as a café/restaurant/bar and function space.
The community park is a vibrant space for the local community and will also be appreciated by many more Western Australians through hosting the WAFL home games of the East Fremantle Sharks.
