True Sport initiative to promote positive sporting environments
In a significant move to bolster the culture of inclusion, support and positive mental health in the sporting community, the department has provided $832,292 into phase 2 of the True Sport program.
Delivered by SportWest in collaboration with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the True Sport program supports the sporting sector in creating safe and welcoming environments throughout community sport, including specific initiatives addressing sideline behaviour, child safeguarding and mental health and wellbeing.
The funding will enable the development of a new website that will become the central hub for all sporting organisations to access tools and resources to support the industry.
It will also enable the delivery of sector-specific training and implementation guidance, for all sports across the state.
True Sport will support sporting clubs and associations to navigate the complicated and specialised areas of mental health, sideline behaviour and child safety, and embed behaviours that enrich the sport experience in WA.
