Local government annual returns due 31 August
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries reminds all council members and designated employees of their obligations to provide an annual return by Thursday 31 August under the Local Government Act 1995 (the Act).
The Act sets out requirements for council members, CEOs and other employees to ensure transparency and accountability in decision-making.
An annual return retrospectively discloses any changes to the information previously disclosed in the primary return or new interests accumulated for the period since completing the primary return or last annual return.
Section 5.76 of the Act provides an offence for a failure to lodge an annual return with a penalty of $10,000 or 2-years imprisonment.
