Peel Sports Forum explores key issues facing sport
Spectator behaviour, club mental health and wellbeing, and retention of teenagers in sport were the key issues discussed at the ninth annual Peel Sports Forum at the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club.
More than 100 key sports industry representatives from Peel and the South West attended the forum which was officially opened by Minister for Sport and Recreation David Templeman.
Guest speakers include veteran Hockeyroo Rachel Lynch, Executive Manager Game Development and Community Football for the Western Australian Football Commission Troy Kirkham, sports commentator and modern-day poet Mick Colliss, and Jodii Maguire Director of Think! Performance Psychology.
The forum provided a platform for delegates to exchange ideas, share best practices, and strengthen partnerships that will drive the future of sport and recreation delivery in the Peel and the South West.
The State Government has supported sport delivery and participation with several recent investment opportunities, including:
- $4.9 million to continue the Regional Athlete Support Program to help talented regionally-based athletes meet their full potential
- an additional $7.5 million annually over the next 2 years for community sport and recreation facilities throughout WA
- $440,000 to help SportWest develop an initiative that invests in the future of the WA sport sector.
