Mandurah ready to welcome Thomas Dambo’s new Giant
Mandurah is preparing for a new arrival to join the popular Giants of Mandurah outdoor sculpture trail created by world-renowned Danish recycle artist, Thomas Dambo.
The addition to Thomas Dambo's Australian-first exhibition is scheduled to arrive next month and will reside at Coodanup Foreshore, replacing the previous sculpture of Giant Vivi Cirkelstone, which was damaged in December last year.
The new giant will be built and installed with the help of the local community, with volunteers to be invited to assist with construction between 8-15 May 2023.
After the new giant has been installed, there will be a free family event to celebrate all the giants, held at Coodanup Foreshore on a date to be announced.
The Giants of Mandurah project is supported by the State Government through Tourism WA's Regional Events Program, as well as the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest, the City of Subiaco and the Alcoa Foundation.
The exhibition was produced by FORM: Building a State of Creativity Inc. and delivered in collaboration with the City of Mandurah, and will remain on display in the Peel region until at least 12 November 2023.
Since the opening of the Giants of Mandurah, the Mandurah Visitor Centre has welcomed more than 86,000 visitors through its doors, representing a 400% increase in visitation compared to the previous year.
Free resources are available to help visitors plan their adventure and discover the exhibition, including the official Travellers' Companion.
