Key milestone in industrial relations reform for local governments
Local governments are advised that important changes under the Industrial Relations Legislation Amendment Act 2021 (IRLA Act) commenced on 20 June 2022.
These changes include regulations that declare every WA local government “not to be a national system employer” for the purposes of the Fair Work Act 2009. This means that local governments will move into the State industrial relations system over time.
The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has published general information on the changes under the IRLA Act, and a fact sheet (PDF 502 KB) on the transition of local government employers into the State system.
Local governments can contact the DMIRS Wageline for assistance.
